HALIFAX - As people celebrate the vibrant culture and heritage of Nova Scotia's black community in metro this month, ACTRA Maritimes member Linda Carvery will bring it all south of the border. The Halifax singer and actor is traveling to Las Vegas later this month to perform the one-woman show This is Nova Scotia From Where I Stand and a jazz duet with singer Jeremiah Sparks.

Nova Scotian stars in O.C.- like drama

YOU'VE JUST shovelled the driveway for the third time today, so what better way to relax than by checking your brain at the front door and dreaming about summer?

That's what the producers of Falcon Beach are hoping you do this weekend. The two-hour Canadian production will premiere Saturday at 8 p.m. on Global.

Maritimes member playwright Josh MacDonald will be launching his play Whereverville at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Bookmark, 5686 Spring Garden Road. Josh will be present, signing copies of his works. Whereverville is the second of MacDonald's plays to be published by Talonbooks.

» Richard Donat Wows Montreal Critics

Congratulations to Maritimes member Richard Donat for winning the Montreal critics award, the Mecca, for his direction of George Boyd's Wade in the Water at the Black Theatre Workshop and Michael Healey's The Drawer Boy at the Centaur Theatre Mainstage.

Richard was recently flown to Boston by PBS to voice the documentary The Real Great Escape.

Conjugal Rites, by Island member Pam Stevenson, will be produced in November in Arnprior, Ontario. Writes Pam, 'I was very excited to receive the request. Conjugal Rites was my first play and it allowed me to become a full member in the Playwright's Guild. I am thrilled it is getting such attention. In November 2003 Conjugal Rites was produced in Alberta.'

The first ever ACTRA Maritimes Youth Wing Picnic was held on Labour Day under sunny skies at Halifax's Point Pleasant Park.

As you can see from the smiling faces, the fifty or so people who attended had a tremendous time.
