ACTRA Maritimes Congratulates Gemini Winners

ACTRA Maritimes members were a force to be reckoned with at this past weekend's 19th Gemini Awards.

Trailer Park Boys - Nova Scotia's own breakout hit - received the award for Best Comedy Show or Series. The entire cast of Maritimes members joined producer/cast member/ACTRA Maritimes member Barrie Dunn, director Mike Clattenburg and producer Mike Volpe on stage to accept the award. Congratulations to JP Tremblay, Robb Wells, Mike Smith, Lucy Decoutere, Pat Roach, Cory Bowles, John Dunsworth, Shelley Thompson, Michael Jackson, Jeanna Steinhart-Harrison, Jonathan Torrens, and all the other ACTRA Maritimes members who have made this show unique.

Not yet twenty and already one of our most celebrated members, Ellen Page took home the Gemini for Best Performance in a Childrens' or Youth Program or Series for her work in Mrs. Ashboro's Cat which was shot in PEI.

And our own Jackie Torrens received her second Gemini as part of the ensemble of Made in Canada - The Last Episode which won for Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series.

And Maritimes member Wayne Grigsby was honoured for his work as a screenwriter with the Margaret Collier Award.


Other winners featuring ACTRA Maritimes members included Poko which received the Gemini for Best Pre-School Program or Series, Snakes & Ladders which garnered
the Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for Toronto member Catherine Disher, Shattered City - The Halifax Explosion which delivered Toronto member Ted Dykstra the award for
Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series and This Hour Has 22 Minutes which won the Best Individual Performance in a Comedy Program or Series for Toronto's Gavin Crawford.

Congratulations to all Gemini winners and nominees! The East Coast contiues to be a powerhouse in the Canadian industry!
